Our Vision

The aim of VASRA is to ensure that all referees are educated to the highest level they can attain. To hold meetings where all members can discuss the game and the application of the laws in a friendly and educational atmosphere. To develop a comradery in which each will know that although they may be on the field of play alone, they have the support of their peers at all times who will stand with them in troublesome times. To encourage the new referees as they start their career, to mentor progress in all areas of refereeing and to ensure them that they can attend meetings to help in the desire to improve on field performance.

Monthly Meeting

Regular monthly meetings are held on the last Monday every month except December at the South Burnaby Metro Club (located at the Bonsor Community Center) at 7:00 pm.

The Referees @ DOXA Dcoumentary Film Festival Posted Apr 22, 2010

On Thursday, May 13, 2010 the DOXA Documentary Film Festival will be showing "The Referees", a film about the life of the referees in the Euro 2008 competition. This was formerly called "Les Arbitres" and it shows the passions in the game from the referee viewpoint (and that of their families). You can get more information here including a trailer and info on tickets. Please consider getting out and seeing the film. VASRA is supporting the film as a Community Partner.

Recognition of Werner Winsemann's World Cup Appearance in June Meeting Posted Jun 11, 2009

June is the 35th anniversary of Werner Winsemann's appearance at the World Cup. We will recognize his achievements in June's meeting. Werner Winsemann is a Founding Member of the BCSRA and is the only Canadian FIFA Referee to have refereed a World Cup game (Holland v Sweden). This was his first of 2 appointments to the World Cup. Werner was also appointed to 2 Olympic games: 1972 Munich and 1976 Montreal.

Life memberships presented to Joe Hrgovic and Bob Allen Posted Jun 11, 2009

In January 2009 meeting, life memberships in VASRA were presented to Joe Hrgovic and Bob Allen. Information was given about the history of their accomplishments and dedication to the game of soccer. Congratulations were provided to Mr. Hrgovic and Mr. Allen from all members present. President Marc Bowley presented Life Membership plagues to them.
